Monthly Energy Trends

The Wood Rat Month begins December 7th, 2023 at 6:38 PM

The Rat is first of the Twelve Animal Archetypes of the Asian Zodiac. Wood Rat is the first Pillar in the Cycle of Sixty.

With the coming of the Wood Rat month, we have access to new strategies for coping with these challenging times!

During every transition of energy from one solar month to the next, there comes fresh opportunities for improvement in our personal lives as well as in the way we interact with the world. Each Monthly Pillar in the cycle of sixty reflects a specific quality of support in achieving these ends.

The Wood Rat Month

This month the Pillar is Yang Wood Rat sitting on Yin Water. It inspires an image of a large, old growth log floating down the river. At the same time that the log is captured in the current and must go with the flow, its bulk and size allows it to somewhat determine its own trajectory.

The blessing and challenge this month is the abundance of energy available, that can launch any project, but can also pull us off track. A bit of discipline and strategic planning can guarantee success and self-determination.

The better outcome, whether personal or global, can be achieved by being able to relax enough to go with the flow while at the same time developing a strategy and the inner strength to keep you on your chosen path.

It is a fortunate thing that amongst the gifts that the Wood Rat brings are improved mental acuity, enhanced mental nimbleness and increased strategic capability. The Rat also inspires resourcefulness and an extraordinary ability to survive almost any crisis. It has been a very challenging year and with the help of the Wood Rat energy we are better positioned personally, locally and globally to resolve seemingly overwhelming challenges.

Four Pillars for the Month

The Wood Rat Month

The prospects this month are mixed:

Rabbit and Pig belong to the same trinity group known as The Catalysts. This is a favorable combination and forms additional Wood element. Wood supports the starting and completion of creative endeavors.

Rat and Rooster together form a combination known as “Flower of Romance”. This refers to energies that support romantic and passionate coupling; an increase in new possibilities if you are unattached; a renewal of passion if you are in a committed relationship.

The Rooster in the Hour Pillar can indicate an increase in self criticism. Be mindful of your inner critic. If it becomes troublesome you can mitigate this with a good dose selfcare.

Rabbit and Rooster are in a 180° opposition. An opportunity for the inner critic represented by the Rooster to learn the kinder, gentler ways of the Rabbit and for the gentle Rabbit to learn the effective and expedient ways of the Rooster.

Rat and Rabbit indicate minor challenges that can cause irritation. Gratitude practice and selfcare offer an effective solution.

Rat and Pig reflect good partnership in all types of relationships.

This month’s Rat is a Wood Rat.

The Wood Rat is first in the cycle of sixty and supports new beginnings and fresh starts. As an added bonus the Wood Rat also imparts humility while achieving even the most daunting tasks. Impressive achievements are a matter of course and do not result in a swollen ego.

The warmth and friendly nature of the Wood Rat inspires a positive approach to relationships and situations, as well as an enhanced sense of humor to helps cope with difficult moments.

The Element Balance This Month:

Water 63% – Wealth – Represents our rewards in life. We are rewarded for good deeds towards others, for the benefit of the greater good and especially by engaging in needed selfcare. Some of this may come in financial form, others times it manifests in a more esoteric form. Your rewards in life catch up with you and fully manifest in the best possible way. You can redeem the rewards of your labor and long term investments of time and resources.

Wood 20% – Power – Power can manifest as Aggressive Power (power over) or Proper Power (power from within). When it manifests as aggressive power there can be frustration from a sense of being controlled or failing to control something external. When it manifests as Proper Power, we are connected with our own essential life force as well as the energy of all there is. Both types are indicated in this month’s Four Pillars.

Metal 9% – Expression – Represents our creativity and how we put ourselves out in the world. Expression is grounded and mellow this month. Creative urges are enhanced, defined and expressed productively.

Earth 8% – Day Element – The defining element in the chart. This is a totally weak “Earth Follows Water” chart. The Day Element is surrounded by Elements that reduce it further. The strength is in the Water Element in the chart. This accentuates communications and the ability to go with the flow. Because Water can overcome all obstacle and always finds its way to its destination, great and surprising successes are possible during this time.

Fire 0% – Resource – Represents support received from people, situations and the universe. With 0% resource we cannot expect external support; self- sufficiency is the better approach.

The Strategist Song

Through clever planning and mental agility
I dare to attempt the impossible.
No matter the challenge I can persist.
My lowest bar is to survive.
My highest achievement has no bounds.
There is no mountain that cannot be climbed
Or sea that cannot be crossed along the path
of my joyous journey.
Come on along and I’ll show you the way!
