The world we live in is made of dreams! Dreams that became thoughts; thoughts that became actions; actions that create manifested reality and dictate its physical and energetic form!
In accordance with the hsia calendar the solar year begins February 5, 2024 at 00:01 AM. The time and date is determined by finding the midpoint between Winter Solstice, Dec 2023 and Spring Equinox, March 2024 (exact date and time is calculated using simple arithmetic).
Dragons are creatures of myth and legend; colorful and exotic symbols of good fortune and emblems of power. The Asian Dragon is always regarded as sacred. People born in Dragon years are free spirits to whom most rules do not apply. Restrictions only serve to extinguish the natural spark of their creativity. Dragons are most comfortable amongst the wind and clouds that is their domain.
Dragon years are considered pivotal years during which many changes can take place in a grand scale.
Whether these manifest as improvements or detriments will depend on the choices we make on a personal and global level.
What we can expect this Wood Dragon year:
- Wood Dragons represent the practical, imaginative and inquisitive aspects of the archetype. All manner of subjects, are of great interest and can be approached with a great deal of originality.
- Purposeful thinking and doing, are highly encouraged and supported during Wood Dragon times. Extra usable energy is provided in service of worthwhile causes.
- The Wood Dragon also encourages a more diplomatic approach compared to other Dragons and appreciates the humorous aspects of situations.

For those of us interested in Asian Astrology there is always a lot of excitement around this time, as the year transitions into the next. We can now access many inspiring, sometimes poetic assessments, from many sources, of what the new year will bring.
You may find that my approach is somewhat different than most. For one, the majority of references to the Asian New Year are based on the Asian Lunar Calendar. In 2024, Year of the Wood Dragon, the Lunar New Year begins on February 10th, with celebrations continuing for 14 days.
As mentioned, I use the Asian Solar Calendar (hsia farmers calendar), with a start date of February 5, 2024, for the Year of the Wood Dragon.
Asian Astrology can be a powerful tool for divination with many practical uses. Where my approach differs from many is that I utilize Four Pillars astrology, a complex method, as a tool that provides guidance rather than as a means for fortune telling.
I liken this work to meteorology, which interprets data points and presents reasonable assessments of upcoming weather trends based on real time science. Similarly, my approach interprets data points and offers a fair assessment of energy trends running through individual lives, as well as the world at large. Based on ancient science, Four Pillars is rooted in cosmology, archetypal symbology, and the observation of ambient energy patterns.
Just as a weather forecast is useful in making better choices in planning any activity affected by weather; Four Pillars astrology provides guidance in making a wide range of vital choices that can greatly improve the quality of your life.
After decades of researching Four Pillars as well as doing thousands of Life Readings, my most important deduction is that results projected from a Four Pillars chart, are NOT WRITTEN IN STONE! Although predictive markers in the chart do reflect essential energy trends, final outcomes are determined by individual choices and actions.
The Heavenly Stems
They reside in the upper section of the Four Pillars Chart and represent the influence of heaven; the more esoteric and spiritual aspects in the chart.
Yang Wood is an important influence this year. It can be likened to the mighty Oak, deeply rooted in the ground; standing majestically, with a wide spread of branches. It shares its powerful message through the many acorns it produces and distributes on the forest floor.
Wood is the most abundant element in this chart. Wood is the element of spring and new beginnings. It is likely to stimulate creative urges as well as a desire for trying new ways to resolve old issues. It resonates with urges to bring our energetic selves out into the world. This is greatly supported this year. The tiny acorns speak loudly like repeating gunfire as they drop to the ground. They are the seeds and the earth provides the fertile ground for new ideas to sprout into a new generation of powerful Oaks!
As the mighty Oak sinks its roots into the ground the fixed nature of Earth Element breaks open and its transformative power is released. The procreative power of Wood Element initializes a new cycle of powerful ideas and provides the resources for them to manifest.
The Element Balance in this chart:
52% Wood – Power – Is a dominant theme this year. Although there is some Aggressive Power (Yin Wood) which represents the dark side of power (power over); most of the power in this chart is Proper Power (Yang Wood) which represents power from within with strong spiritual connection. To make the most of power, it is essential that it be used benevolently and in service of the greater good.
17% – Fire – Resource –Represents our support in life from family, friends and the universe. Support this year comes in the form of live performances and appearance, television and internet entertainment, as well as films. Although there is a significant amount of external support, we are also required to be self-supporting through mindfulness and self-care.
17% Water – Wealth – represents our chosen and earned rewards in life. With Water as wealth element rewards flow smoothly and effortlessly. We are rewarded especially for inner work on the self. Always best to look beyond material rewards. Instead, look to the rewards that come from positive people connections and relationships. Benevolent actions are their own rewards; especially random acts of kindness. These are not the types of rewards that can be accumulated. Although they do have a lasting effect, their greatest benefit is in the value of the experiences as they unfold and the joyful states they perpetuate.
14% Earth – Self – and favorable relationships. This percentage is bordering on low. It indicates that all areas that pertain to the self will require extra shepherding. Developing greater self-awareness is essential; greater self-care also a necessity. Most important is careful attention to our closest relationships. They may require more attention and may require effort beyond ordinary maintenance. These are muscles we need to exercise this year; extra effort well worth doing. Like all exercise it will strengthen these most important functions and their related skills.
0% Metal – Expression – represents creative output and its influence. Expression is lacking in this chart. We may experience some difficulties related to communications. Truth is the essence of good communication and we will need to be vigilant in discerning what is true and what is falsehood presented as truth. Paying attention to your inner process can be helpful in achieving better outcomes.
The Earthly Branches
They reside in the lower portion of the chart and represent the influence of Earth and the material aspects of manifested reality.
Wood Dragon Year Driven by Fire Tiger month is a powerful combination. The Dragon is master of the heavens and Tiger master of the earth. In addition, the Wood Rat in the hour pillar is part of the Dragon’s trinity group. The Dragon is further enhanced and is in its full power. This can manifest as many challenges or many blessings!
At first glance it may appear that this will be a highly energized rapid moving year that seems somewhat out of control. The Day and Time Pillars represent the inner and less visible aspects of the chart. Thankfully the strategic capabilities of the Rat and diplomatic preferences of the gentle Pig in the Day and Hour Pillars, offer counterpoints that can balance, the energetic surge and reduce reckless actions.
There is another twist. The Fire Tiger is an Empty Branch in this chart. The Empty Branch points to lessons needing to be learned; they are sometimes karmic lesson. The lesson of the Tiger Empty Branch is a caution to use the Tiger’s power with care and to think things through. Avoid impatience and impulsive action. It also warns to not act meekly once the proper course has been determined. Take decisive action in pursuit of important goals. The idea, even more than usual, is to achieve balance between these two opposed extremes.
The influence of the Fire Tiger
Colorful, active and dramatic, Fire Tigers are alight with passion, enthusiasm, vitality and verve. They are outgoing, communicative, optimistic, and always ablaze with the excitement of the latest scheme. They have the Tiger’s power of leadership in full portion, and a natural ability to inspire other people with their own enthusiasm. They often have a natural wit and powers of oratory that crown their charismatic and persuasive personalities. Fired by their own excitement and by an endless supply of energy, they can even seem melodramatic, and they may not be able to understand more cautious or down to earth approaches by others.
The Fire Tiger pillar exerts it influence on the energy of the year and also strongly affects the month of February.
How To Live The Life Of Your Dreams And Save The World
This is the time to do those things you have been thinking about for a while. Whether in service of the greater good, or as the result of a dream or passion you have. Chances for success are greatly supported this year. This is the time to act! Pay attention to subtle energies and the messages they provide for guidance. There is much helpful information available, you need simply listen in a mindful and conscious manner.
Once you live in genuine truth about yourself without shame or guilt you can take action with the force of a Dragon and fierceness of the Tiger. Proceed forward with confidence and certainty. With a world in crisis definitive action in need to turn things around. Always begin with yourself. Even small steps like the tiny acorn can sprout into a mighty Oak when planted in fertile ground. Choose your environment carefully, including the people you surround yourself with.
Share your success outwardly as it begins to manifest. First with family and friends, then community, municipality, state country and the world. You have an infinite number of choices and opportunities to share your good fortune and to do so in gratitude.
Kindness is infectious! Stop, look and listen! There is much to be done. You can be the acorn and the tree! You can spread the love and encourage it to grow within yourself and everyone within your reach.
Living in the truth of your most essential self will open the door to living your dream life without resistance or impediment.
With the Dragon, ruler of the heavens and the Tiger, Ruler of the Earth, we are headed into a powerful time with infinite possibilities. We are all made of the same stardust. This knowledge can give you the confidence to proceed knowing that you are already a part of all there is.
In essence this is what Four Pillars strives to achieve. Information you cannot get from the internet that leads to clarity and an honest and intimate knowledge of self; without impediment!
