Hmmm… I see a serious lack of hands. We each have our own opinion of what is wrong with our world right now. It might be your immediate world of your family or neighborhood, or the country and politics, or hate issues, or the global weather issues, or the overuse and abuse of our beautiful mother Earth.

When the discussions arise (discussions seems a polite word, as people get very charged around their viewpoints), it seems that there is always someone else to blame. Anger is stronger than compassion. Being louder is valued more than active listening.

And even if you are the active and compassionate listener, we get discouraged… we think, ‘what can one person do… how can one person make a difference?”

“One person can make a difference. In fact, it’s not only possible for one person to make a difference, its essential that one person makes a difference. And believe it or not, that person is you.” – Bob Riley

Everyone Who Feels The World Is In Perfect Shape, Raise Your Hand

If you were thinking that feng shui is all about crystals and red ribbons, cures and adjustments, it truly runs so much deeper. Your home is a template for your life. HGTV may have us thinking that our home should be something else, a certain décor style (beachy modern) or a trendy floorplan. But deep down, what is represented in your home becomes a representation of who you are, what you believe in and how you live your life.

Choose what is bothering you about the world. And then choose to be the change. And this starts with the template you create in your home.

If you are concerned about Earths resources and pollution, what are you doing to consume less, and create less waste? Does your home reflect that conscious kind of living? For example, I have known people who are all about using the best essential oils, but convinced that using more is better (healthier, right?) Yet when you look further, there is an enormous amount of plants harvested in the creation of each bottle. Being conscious of a precious resource through cherished use and not encouraging waste, should be at the core concept of every essential oil user.  This is just one example. Create a template in your home that encourages healthy products, that create less waste and less chemicals in your home, and then also less waste (in packaging) and chemicals (in production and transportation) in our environment.

If the change you want to see in the world is reducing violence and hatred, take a look at your home, and see…are there sights, sounds or imagery that related to those in your home? Do you have products or items in your home perhaps created someplace using violence and hatred? Take the time to curate your home to be a model for the change you want to see in the world. Balance the time of watching the news or violent movies or games, with uplifting imagery, sounds or shows. Think of the value you want to see in the world, and program those into the way you treat not just the people in your home, but all creatures (pets, plants, even your rocks!) If you have items you love, that were created somewhere with tensions, take the time to hold that object and send great gratitude and blessings back to the makers of that object and send blessings into the lives of everyone who was along the journey from the maker to you. Send love… not hate.

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” – Jane Goodall

If the change you wish is more personal such as with your family or your relationships, then it’s even more impactful to assure that the items, images and sounds in your home resonate with the love and peace and harmony that you want.  It can be hard to see the symbolism in your own home. You live there, in the middle of it. It’s like the saying, ‘I can’t see the forest for the trees’. That is when it’s very useful to call upon a feng shui consultant to help you see the template that you have made, and then create change in your life, through changes in your home.

You can try some ways to look at your own home through the eyes of someone else. One way is to take photos of each room from different angles. Then, look at the photos, and I will guarantee you that things you take for granted and don’t notice anymore will pop out at you. Things like clutter, items that really don’t resonate with your personal values begin to stand out. But if you are still stumped on what to do, call in the help of a professional. We don’t judge. We consider it sacred work to assist someone with the energy of their home and life.

Take a deep look at your home before the Chinese New Year, and then take the steps to create the feeling in your home that you wish to ripple out to the world in this new year!
